Sunday Morning

March 7, 2010

Third Sunday in Lent

8:30 & 11:00 AM

Jesus calls us to follow, but does not always say where he is leading. As the original disciples, who followed Jesus from place to place, must have wondered where now, so we often wonder where the Lord will lead us next.

Our service themes throughout Lent are focused on some of these places. In the account of the temptation of Christ, we heard about being led into the wilderness and what that means in terms of isolation, meditation, and preparation. In the account of Jesus being warned to leave Galilee and how he set his face for Jerusalem we learned that we often must leave secure places and stay close to Jesus. This week, in the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin we discover how Jesus regularly interrupts his plans for search and rescue missions.

Where now? In coming weeks we will follow Jesus to the border lands, then home with Zacchaeus, to Jerusalem and the temple, the table, and finally the cross. Where is Christ leading you? Where now?

PRAYER:  Compassionate and all-merciful God, we thank you that in love you sent Jesus Christ to share our earthly life with its joy and suffering. Give us grace, that in our need we may come to you in humility and receive your blessing with open hearts, that we may once again serve you with joy and thanksgiving. Amen.
