HOURS OF OPERATION HLCDC is open year round, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:45 PM. During the summer months we offer a Summer Camp Program.
CLASS SIZE HLCDC is a small, family oriented Center. Our teacher/student ratios are carefully maintained to exceed OCC and MSDE Regulations. The Two-Year-Old program has 3 teachers with a class size limit of 12. The program for the Three-Year-Old group and the Pre-K group has 2 teachers each with a class size limit of 17-18. In addition to the Center Director, the staff includes a floating teacher/office assistant and an Administrative Director.
ENRICHMENT Enrichment activities include:
OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY Hampton Lane Child Development Center (HLCDC) provides a warm, loving, and safe environment for children ages 2 through Pre-K. HLCDC includes an accredited educational program that provides a variety of experiences to help preschoolers develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
Our teachers encourage each of our children to develop a healthy self-image, to gain self-confidence through interactions with classmates and adults, and to grow toward independence.
We believe that children are always learning and that play is an important part of the learning process. Therefore, the instructional method by which our children learn is through play and small group activities. The curriculum includes experiences in language arts, social studies, as well as mathematics and scientific concepts.
Enrichment experiences focusing on creative arts, music and movement, and fine and gross motor skills are also included in our program. The educational environment at HLCDC is based on the appropriate developmental needs and interests of young children while promoting an appreciation of the world in which we live.
OUR STAFF We believe that preschool education is best accomplished by employing educationally qualified teachers who are committed to presenting a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
Faculty members are chosen on the basis of their educational backgrounds, teaching skills, and nurturing abilities. Teachers have BACHELOR degrees with course work in EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION.
Our Educational Director, Anita Cox, ensures that the state approved curriculum is followed, supervises the staff, ensures that the childcare regulations are followed, and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of HLCDC. Anita has a Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from Towson University, a Graduate Diploma in Social Work / Administration and a BS in Chemistry from Dundee University, Dundee, Scotland. She was instrumental in opening and served as Director for the Downtown Baltimore Child Care Center for three years. She has a wealth of experience teaching college level early childhood courses at Towson University, Hood College, and most recently, Stevenson University where she was the Field Placement Director and Instructor of Early Childhood and Elementary Education courses. She has taught young children of every age including Kindergarten. Anita has been with the Center since September 1, 2009.
Our Administrative Director, Nancy Andrew, acts as the liaison between Towson United Methodist Church and HLCDC, and has overall responsibility for HLCDC and its finances. Nancy received a BA Degree from DePauw University. She has held her position here at the Center since 1981.
TUITION HLCDC is a non-profit organization and an outreach ministry of Towson United Methodist Church. Our goal is to keep tuition rates at a reasonable rate while not compromising the quality of our program. A reduction in tuition is allowed for additional siblings.
ENROLLMENT Parents of prospective students are encouraged to call and schedule a tour of our facility at which time their child's name is added to a wait list. Priority is given to currently enrolled students and subsequently opened first, to wait listed children of members of Towson United Methodist Church, and then to children in the order their names were placed on the list. We make every effort to maintain a balanced blend of boys and girls in each class. Children must have reached the age of the preschool level they are entering by August 31. Maryland State guidelines are being implemented over time to ensure that children entering Kindergarten will turn 5 by September 1 of that year. |
