Why Be a Church Member? One can worship and study and participate in all church programs without ever “joining an organization.” So, why be a member? The best reason is because membership is our way of making a covenant with other Christians to join together in a concerted effort to proclaim and live in Christ. It is part of a “we are in this faith thing together” mentality. Membership also allows us to serve on all of the decision-making boards so that our voice can be added to others. It allows us to be part of setting a direction and determining a future. Membership allows you to VOTE at congregational meetings when big decisions need to be decided. You may be a FULL MEMBER or an ASSOCIATE MEMBER. An Associate Member is someone who wishes to remain a full member at another church, it may be in your home town or it could be another denomination, AND actively participate at the church where you currently live. NEW MEMBERS CLASS Sunday mornings October 19 & 26, and November 2 & 9 9:45—10:30 AM Guest Ministries is sponsoring a NEW MEMBERS CLASS that will meet in Room 317 Sunday mornings during Christian Connections hour, 9:45—10:30 AM beginning October 19 through November 9th. Those who wish to join Towson United Methodist Church will do so during the 11:00 worship service Sunday morning, November 9th. We will welcome the new members with a light reception in the Parlor following the service. If you are interested in attending the classes, please contact Margery Schammel at 410-823-2485 or mschammel@towsonumc.org, or drop a note in Margery’s mailbox in the church office.
